Florida Beach Treasure - a Pearl?

A pearl?

A pearl?

I found this pearl on vacation in Fort Myers Beach Florida while looking for sea shells in shallow water.

At first I thought it was a piece of trash from a plastic or glass necklace but it has no hole or any signs of handling.
We are still wondering if it really is a Pearl since it completely round and doesn't look like the pearls on my necklaces.

Not smooth
by: Katrin

Thanks Kari, the shine also made me wonder. But it doesn't feel smooth on my teeth and it has tiny ridges (if that's what you call them).

Looks suspicious
by: Kari

Hi K,

That looks suspicious. Maybe not a pearl. It looks too shiny in a glass-like way and too perfect.

If you rub it on your teeth is it a little gritty or smooth?

It is beautiful and is a lovely soft pink color but just from seeing a photo, I doubt that it is a pearl.

A jeweler who could see it first hand could give you an expert opinion.

Thanks for sharing and don't give up looking!

When you find out for sure, please let us know.

God bless,
Kari
