17CT Cassis Pearl Octopus Pendant 14KT Gold With Sapphire Eyes

The pearl was set in a 50s style ring I purchased years ago from an estate sale. I designed the octopus myself at Oteries Custom Jewelry of Jupiter FL. They helped me create it which I drew the design and then made on the computer for them to make. I also had them appraise it for me so I could sell it to cover recent medical expenses. The paperwork says the pearl comes from a Horned Helmet Conch (Cassis Cornuta). I'm not exactly sure what kind of pearl it is and after researching pearls I think it might be a Tridacna Clam Pearl. I would love to know your thoughts of the species this pearl is. I was planning on sending it to GIA to have it certified. Do you think they will know? Thank you and hope you liked my first jewelry creation. Dustin

I love it!

Hello Dustin,

Wow, I love it. Great design. You were lucky to find a jeweler who could fulfill your wishes. It's really neat.
If the paperwork says Horned Helmet Conch (Cassis Cornuta)then that's probably what it is. Normally referred to as Cassis pearls. I have some for sale here on this page: target="new">Cassis Pearls.
But, I agree that the flame looks like from Tridacna clam pearls.
About GIA, I'm not sure if they would be able to identify the type or not. They should be able to and then you'd know.
At any rate, I love the design and I appreciate you sharing it.
I offer a free listing service for natural pearls and jewelry. Let me know if that would interest you and I can give you the details.
Thanks and God bless, Kari
