260 carat Abalone - Paua Pearl Iridescent Blue, Purple and Green
Type of pearl: Natural Paua Pearl
Weight: 52 grams = 260 Carats
Shape: Baroque
Size: 9.2cm (3.5in) in length, 5cm (2in) in width & 2cm (0.79in) at the highest point
Color: Strong vibrant iridescent colours, blues, mauves, purple, electric green with overtones of orange.
Location of Origin: Chatham Islands, a group of isolated islands at the end of the earth off the coast of New Zealand.
The cold temperatures of the water here make the colours of the "Paua", as they are locally known, particularly intense, iridescent and luminous.
There is a very limited quota of wild Paua harvested by divers by hand, every year and only very rarely do they produce a pearl at all and one this size and this shape would have taken over 25 years to grow.
I starting collecting abalone pearls over 28 years ago. This one has been in my collection for years and only now am I willing to part with this treasure.
Price: $14,460
