7 Pearls Found in One Oyster
At first Mike Burnett thought he had lost part of a tooth.
There was something hard in the oyster he was eating the afternoon of Jan. 1.
“I felt a crunch,” he said. “I spit it out.”
But it wasn’t a part of his tooth. It looked like a pearl. And then, he spit out another ... and another.
“They just kept on coming,” he said.
The Dameron resident ended up with seven of what he figures are pearls, off-white and of differing sizes, ranging from fairly tiny up to a quarter of an inch round. Burnett and his roommate were splitting about a dozen fried oysters that were left over from celebrating New Year’s Eve, the day before.
