I started learning to restring my own pearls after a jewelry store ruined the luster on my first strand. They said they always "clean" them when they restring them. Unfortunately they became a dull, chalky white. I have had similar issues when resizing pearl rings--they put them in the ultrasonic cleaner! This was a great tutorial. I just finished restringing a 32" vintage strand from the 1950's. I used nylon, and instead of melting the ends of the final knot with an open flame, I used the glowing end of an incense stick. It worked great! I'd never even thought of melting the ends of the knot before, but always used glue before.
