Wow....be sure to count the number of Abalone in your sack carefully and don't take 200 times your allowed allotment. If you do, you'll face a maximum fine of $11,000 or three months in jail for taking 200 times the limit of Abalone, which is normally 2 per person.
A 31 year old Batemans Bay man radically miscounted and got caught in the act. The Primary Industries Department is clamping down heavily on illegal poachers and there is a substancial reward for anyone whose report of these illegal poachers results in a successful conviction of abalone thieves.....so keep your eyes open.
