This beautiful, dainty necklace of 141 natural saltwater pearls would make a fantastic start to a natural pearl collection, or a superb gift for a very lucky young lady!
The pearls vary in shape from round to off-round, and in color from white to off-white with pinkish orient. Pearls of this size and whiteness often came from the Ceylon Straits, where pearl diving essentially ceased in the 1950s.
The necklace dates from the First World War era. The marquise-shaped clasp is platinum with a yellow gold plunger, has fine millgrain detail and is set with 10 sparkling accent diamonds.
The pearls have just been restrung on white silk, and the necklace has an easily wearable length of 17.5 inches, given that many necklaces from this era measure only 12 to 14 inches. The certificate shown, as well as the appraisal for $3,650, are included.
