Bahrain's Pearl Road as a Unesco World Heritage Site


INTERNATIONAL recognition of Bahrain's Pearl Road as a Unesco World Heritage Site is a source of pride for all Bahrainis.


It signifies the value of Bahraini pearls - pearling having contributed to the kingdom's culture and national character, said the Crown Prince.

This came as His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier attended a ceremony to mark the official status of Pearl Road as a world heritage site.

Present was Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, officials and guests.

The Crown Prince was presented with the Unesco certificate by Mrs Nada Al Hassan, Head of the Arab Countries Division at Unesco's World Heritage Centre.

He noted the strong support of His Majesty King Hamad to projects that highlight the history and culture of Bahrain.

He also paid tribute to the Culture Ministry's tireless efforts to secure this status. He welcomed the ministry's work to preserve the sites and highlight the unique contribution pearling has made to the Bahrain's economy, culture and history.
