This large ring is a truly magnificent example from the Arts & Crafts movement in America, circa 1905.
This handcrafted, one-of-a-kind ring features three natural Mississippi freshwater pearls, set in an ornate floral and foliate mounting executed in silver and heavy multi-colored gold. The use of 14K gold in three colors--yellow, pink, and green--is accentuated beautifully by the textured silver ring shank. The bezel-set pearls are white, with subtle champagne orient visible on the largest pearl.
The ring displays excellent workmanship; each floral element has been crafted individually and applied to the ring in a harmonious composition. Condition is very fine; it has been cleaned but not repolished, with some of the silver's patina--lighter than it appears in the photos--remaining behind the gold floral design.
The split shank is original to the ring, made for comfort in wearing. The face of the ring is approximately 1-5/8" long! It was very likely worn on the index finger. Currently it is a size 7, but may be sized up or down by an experienced jeweler (the split shank means this is not a difficult sizing job, but extra care must be taken when working with pearls).
Included with the ring will be an appraisal performed by Lila Taylor, M.Sc., whose areas of expertise include Mississippi River pearls.
