Clam Bake Pearl Find!

by Yvonne Freeman
(Pavilion, NY)

My husband was at his union's annual clam-bake this past weekend, and was just telling one of his co-workers about a story on the news about the guy that found the $1 million dollar pearl in Florida. Not five minutes later, he was chewing a steamed little-neck clam, and spit out a dark purple 8mm 3/4 round pearl! It's 6 mm deep, and absolutely gorgeous! We live in Western NY, and are having a heck of a time finding anyone who can tell us what it is worth or anything about it - other than one kind jeweler measuring it for us! He also stated there are no obvious blemishes in it or cracks/scratches. If anyone has any information at all about where we could have an appraisal done on it I would so appreciate it! yvonne dot freeman at gmail dot com. Thanks!

Lucky you!

Hi Yvonne,

Lucky you. Your pearls sounds lovely. EGL in NY appraises quahog pearls and also Gina Latendresse in Tennessee appraises natural pearls. You might give those two a try and getting an appraisal. Also some auction houses will give free appraisals at certain times.

It must have been especially exciting to find a pearl after you read about someone else finding one.
