found a small pearl...

by Tomislav Vladusic
(Croatia)

Last Sunday we went to the river for a walk and decided to take some mussel and clam shells. While cleaning the mud off a mussel shell, I noticed a small pearl attached. There's a groove around it, so it seems like it's grown into the shell. Not entirely sure about the species, but I believe it's Sinanodonta woodiana. Location - Sava river, Jasenovac, Croatia. The pearl is 3 mm wide.

Besides one more blister pearl found in addition to the one on the pics, river gravel in the area also has some jadeite, jasper and hematite. We picked a few colourful stones and submitted for determination :D

With kind regards

How fun!
by: Kari

Hi Tomislav,

How fun to find a blister pearl! The photos were great. Keep looking, maybe you'll find more or a nice loose pearl some day.

Yours will make a great keepsake.

Nice to hear all the way from Croatia.

Thanks for sharing!
