I found the sterling necklace at an estate sale. It appears to be a Quahog pearl to me, but I don't know anything about them. It is very smooth on 1 side and a little "rougher" on the other. It appears to have slightly different tones to it. Would a jeweler be able to positively ID it? Thanks

Thanks for your post with photos about the possible quahog pearl necklace. It does look like a possibility but it's not enough to only see a photograph. It's a lovely piece, regardless of what it is. A lab and some jewelers could tell you if it was a quahog pearl. Even if a jeweler was not familiar with quahog pearls he might be able to at least speculate about what he thought it was. GIA or EGL in NYC could tell you for sure. I'd say keep checking with local jewelers first and see what feedback you get. I'd love to hear back about your findings. Lucky you if it does turn out to be a quahog pearl necklace!
