Joining Thread

I have a strand of vintage beads that I want to restring. The strand is about 70 inches in length. My beading cord isn't that long so I will need to add more cord. Does any one have a method for joining the beading cord so I have enough to knot the entire strand?

I have a pearl rope I am trying to restring and knot. I know that the size I am using is 6 and only comes in 6' pieces, I thought I would leave extra at the end and knot with another section. Will let you know how this works.
