Natural Oyster Pearl Found
Natural Oyster Pearl Found
A Latrobe boy crunched down on a pretty little bonus when he dug into fried oysters at a local restaurant.
"I was eating and heard a grind in my mouth. I thought, 'Oh crap, it's a tooth,'" said Brice Hoza, 11, of Latrobe, who was dining with his family at Carol & Dave's Roadhouse restaurant in Ligonier just before Christmas.
"We noticed him moving his mouth around a bite of food. Then he said there was something in his mouth," said his grandmother, Barbara Hoza of Ligonier.
When the boy said he thought it was a pearl, his grandmother said, she looked at him in disbelief.
It was indeed a perfect, teardrop-shaped pearl.
Restaurant owner Dave Cassler said the oysters were harvested at a saltwater farm in Louisiana. He orders them every week for Seafood Friday at the restaurant.
