Natural Pearls Sell Far Above Estimates at Bonhams

Bonhams fine jewelry sale in London achieved $6.7 million (GBP 4.2 million) with natural pearls experiencing impressive prices. Seventy-five pearls, fastened with a diamond clasp, was the most valuable lot of the sale at $319,000 (GBP 194,500) and a single-row pearl necklace of 70 pearls achieved $181,000 (GBP 110,500) against a high presale estimate of only $14,700. A three-row necklace of natural saltwater pearls sold for quadruple the presale estimate at $151,500 (GBP 92,500).

Additionally, a natural pearl and diamond ring sold for $77,800 (GBP 47,500), more than twice the high presale estimate. Diamonds, too, achieved strong prices led by a 12.63-carat, fancy yellow diamond ring that sold for $240,000 (GBP 146,600). A sapphire and diamond pelouse - or lawn - suite by Van Cleef & Arpels sold for just under $240,000 (GBP 146,500).
