Pearl of Great Price
Pearl of Great Price
"Those who dive in the sea of affliction bring up rare pearls."
Charles SpurgeonI was thinking about this quote the other day, and about the good we hope will come from trials; that in the darkness we might discover treasures and precious things we would never have found without the trials, maybe some insight, or some wisdom, or some redeeming experience.
But thinking of pearls made me think of the pearl of great price that Jesus talks about. And Jesus Himself, the ultimate Pearl of the greatest price for whom it is worth giving up everything else.
And that's the best thing that could happen in the sea of affliction, that diving there we would find Christ, the Pearl, that the pain and hardship would drive us to know Him more . It's better to find Christ in affliction, to find the Redeemer, to know Him better than it is to discover or recover anything else we might consider a "pearl". Just like the man in the parable, who gave up all his other pearls so that he could have the Pearl of great price.
