Salamander Pearl Jewel by Lyn Punkari
Salamander Pearl Jewel
The Salamander pearl jewel is by goldsmith and lapidary artist Lyn Punkari. Lyn owns and operates the online custom and historic jewel business Darkridge Jewels. Her site is at
http://www.darkridgejewels.com. Other baroque pearls she has made are displayed in her site in her baroque pearl jewel album. Lyn lives in Louisville, Kentucky.
The oldest (but still the owner's favorite) jewel is the Salamander jewel. It was Lyn's first attempt at making a baroque pearl jewel. She has shared stories with the owner of the difficulties she had with her first attempt. Apparently it was quite difficult and took many tries. It is of solid 14k gold set with accent late renaissance period cut sapphires and rubies. The pearl is another very, very large baroque, but the owner is not sure if it's freshwater or salt water. A relative of mine picked it up for her as a gift in a little shop in Key West Florida during a vacation. This jewel is an attempt to be as authentic as possible in creating a renaissance baroque pearl jewel.
