String of Pearls Plant
String of Pearls Plant (Senecio rowleyanus)
Naturally these aren't pearls....and my site is about pearls....but it was hard to pass up a page about a plant named for this gorgeous gem.
This succulent has leaves in the shape of pearls with the stems growing several feet in length when exposed to perfect growing conditions which is a place where it gets a little light as in a hanging basket near a south, east or west facing window.
Small white flowers can periodically appear on the pearly leaves.
Over watering will kill this intriguing house plant and it needs even less water in cooler months.
Want to start another pearl plant to give a friend or for Christmas gifts? Growing new plants is easy with a stem segment that's allowed to dry a few days and then planted in well drained soil. Water sparingly until rooted.
